Year after year, Kia takes the top place among other car brands in quality. Kia is now a five-time winner of the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study (IQS) for non-luxury brands.

Four Kia vehicles were included in the top 10 vehicles of the study, which was the most of any brand. The Rio, Forte, Sportage and Soul were all in the top ten as well as the top of their segments, which are Small Car, Compact Car, Small SUV and Minivan, respectively.

“Being ranked at the top of J.D. Power’s U.S. Initial Quality Study among all mass market brands once is a tremendous honor, but capturing this leadership position for five consecutive years unequivocally affirms Kia’s commitment to quality and the ownership experience,” Kia Motors America COO Michael Cole said in a statement. “With four segment winners — and three additional models ranking among the top three in their respective segments — Kia’s ‘Give It Everything’ brand philosophy has clearly yielded a world-class model lineup.”

J.D. Power measures initial quality by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles during the first 90 days of ownership. The lower the score, the higher the quality. This year, Kia vehicle owners reported 70 problems per 100 vehicles, which is a two-point improvement from last year’s results

This year’s IQS looked at responses from 76,256 owners of 257 vehicle models in 26 segments. The vehicles were evaluated on driving experience, engine and transmission performance and a wide range of issues reported by those owners.
