2020 Kia Telluride: Rugged Luxury

600 × 400
The 2020 Kia Telluride is Kia’s largest vehicle ever. It’s big, bold and capable. Kia is touting the Telluride as rugged luxury and we think that’s a perfect way to describe this chic SUV.

The Telluride concept was released in early 2016 and even back then,

“The Kia Telluride makes an aesthetic statement for the Kia brand as a bold, all-new luxury SUV with an abundance of advanced technology, focusing particular attention on the experience and comfort of second-row occupants,” Chief Designer Tom Kearns for Kia Design Center America said in a press release dated Jan. 11, 2016. “Longer, wider and taller than the recently redesigned Sorento CUV, Telluride allows us to envision what a full-size seven-passenger SUV from Kia could look like.”

The Telluride was confirmed to be going into production when a bespoke version made a surprise appearance at fashion designer Brandon Maxwell’s  New York Fashion Week show in September of last year.

Then, in late October 2018, Kia took four highly-modified Tellurides to the 2018 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas.

So, what makes the Telluride worthy of the term rugged luxury? For starters, it was designed right here in America at the Kia Design Center in Irvine, Calif. to be big and boxy with a do-anything attitude. It has a long, broad hood and wide grille with bold, stacked headlamps to convey the power it has. The inverted “L” taillamps with LED stripes are standard on the EX and SX trims and sculpted the rear skid plate with integrated twin exhaust tips indicate its ability to hit the trails and light them up with ease.

The 2020 Telluride has an Atkinson Cycle LAMBDA II 3.8L V6 GDI engine that produces 291 horsepower and 262 lb.-ft. of torque that works with an 8-speed automatic transmission. It also has a four-wheel independent suspension and a rigid body to keep you safe while you’re on your adventures.

Inside, is where you really feel the luxury. The 2020 Telluride has available double-stitched, quilted and extra-padded Nappa leather trip as well as matte-finished wood and simulated brushed metal throughout. The third-row seats recline and the HVAC diffusing ceiling vents give more airflow for rear passengers.

The 2020 Telluride has an available 10.25-inch color touchscreen with parking guidance, rearview monitor, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and more. Bluetooth connectivity is standard as well as six total USB charging ports throughout the cabin. A wireless smartphone charging pad is available for even more refinement.
